In Ukraine, electric cars will receive green license plates and first privileges
The Verkhovna Rada adopted Law No. 10405 “On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine regarding the creation of access to the infrastructure of charging stations for electric vehicles”. It is designed to protect the right of electric vehicles to park in places of charging, and also introduces special green license plates for electric vehicles.
The authors of this law have tried to protect the rights of owners of electric vehicles. Now, for parking vehicles with internal combustion engines in places directly designated for charging electric vehicles, their owners will face a fine of 20 to 30 non-taxable minimums, that is, 340-510 UAH.
In addition, the law provides for the introduction of special green license plates for easy identification of electric vehicles, as well as the corresponding traffic signs, which were not previously in traffic regulations.
Obviously, the law was made with a long-range view on the development of electromobility and future incentives for this. And green license plates are only the first step and an identifier with which such transport can receive other preferences in the future.
The fact that a penalty will be imposed for parking cars with an internal combustion engine in places designated for electric vehicles, indicates the beginning of the period of confrontation between the two eras. If before this, the electric car market developed peacefully and quietly coexisted with a car with ICE, then from January 1, 2020, electric cars will find themselves in a more privileged position - you can’t park your car with ICE anymore. At the same time, in places where it is allowed to park cars with ICE, you can park electric cars. The electric segment in Ukraine goes on the attack on the car engine and it is obvious that this is only the first step.
The law comes into force on January 1, 2020.
