While Volkswagen does not speak about prices for its debut electric car. But on the eve of the start of taking orders some information still leaked: I.D. will be more expensive than expected.

The basic version of the Volkswagen I.D. will receive a 170-horsepower electric motor on the rear axle and a 48-kilowatt battery, which will provide mileage on a single charge of up to 330 km. According to Auto Motor und Sport, such an I.D. priced by the manufacturer at 29,990 euros, excluding subsidies for the purchase of "green" transport operating in some countries.

Earlier it was reported that the estimated base price of Volkswagen I.D. amount to 24,000 euros. Nevertheless, even the voiced price tag makes the German hatch much more affordable than, for example, Tesla Model 3, which is now breaking sales records in the European market.

However, the basic modification I.D. Traditionally will not be available immediately. The launch of the electric car on the market will happen with the version that VW promises to show at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Such a hatchback will take a middle position in the lineup and will be equipped with a 62-kilowatt battery with a 450-kilometer power reserve, and it was rumored that it was estimated at 35,000 euros.

Finally, in 2020, Volkswagen should release the most expensive and long-range modification, which, thanks to the 80-kilowatt battery, can travel up to 600 km without “refueling”. The estimated price tag has not yet been named, but may come close to 40,000 euros.

Interestingly, according to some experts, Volkswagen does not plan to make money on electric cars - at least for the first time. The manufacturer is willing to put up with the possibility of losing up to 3,000 euros on each sold electric hatchback for the sake of developing the concept of "green" transport as a whole, and, according to rumors, unprofitable I.D. maybe right up to the middle of the decade.

It is expected that Volkswagen will announce the start of accepting orders for an electric car on May 8.
