Xiaomi EV, the automotive division of Chinese tech giant Xiaomi, is preparing to unveil its second electric vehicle — the YU7. This stylish electric SUV is positioned as a competitor to the popular Tesla Model Y and will be available to customers in the summer of 2025. Here’s what we know so far.
Key Features of Xiaomi YU7
Design and Dimensions:
The YU7 impresses with its size: length — 4999 mm, width — 1996 mm, height — 1600 mm. A 3000 mm wheelbase ensures a spacious interior comfortably seating five people. The vehicle weighs 2405 kg.
Power and Motors:
The top version of the YU7 is equipped with dual electric motors: the front motor produces 220 kW, while the rear motor outputs 288 kW. Combined, they deliver a total power of 508 kW (681 hp), enabling the SUV to reach speeds of up to 253 km/h. A more affordable version will feature a single front motor and an LFP battery from BYD.
Battery:
The YU7 is equipped with a triple-layer NMC lithium-ion battery from CATL. While the exact capacity is yet to be revealed, these batteries are known for their high energy efficiency and density.
Launch and Availability
On December 9, 2024, Xiaomi filed for YU7 certification with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT). This allows the company to test the vehicle without heavy camouflage and prepare for mass production. However, sales are not expected until mid-2025.
The delay is due to the completion of the second phase of construction at the F2 factory, covering an area of 531,000 m². The facility is set to be operational by July 2025.
