Mercedes-Benz is the first automaker to introduce a full line of electric crossovers, including five models. The latest addition is the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV - the electric equivalent of the GLE and a direct competitor to the BMW iX. Despite the similarity in design to the EQS, the new product has its own unique style, retaining the traditional model indices on the A-pillars.
The EQE SUV is built on the modular MEA platform previously used for the EQE, EQS and EQS SUV models. Its wheelbase is the most compact in the family, but the length and width are close to those of the GLE. The EQE SUV's height has been lowered slightly, giving it a more streamlined silhouette. Optional retractable door handles also improve aerodynamics, reducing the drag coefficient to 0.25.
Unlike the EQE, the crossover retains the door glass frames. A choice of wheels from 19 to 22 inches is available, and the base includes matrix headlights. Optional digital headlights can project helpful symbols and arrows onto the road. For a sporty image, the AMG Line body kit is available.
The interior of the EQE SUV is completely unified with other models on the MEA platform. The base has a separate digital instrument cluster, a vertical MBUX media screen and a head-up display. For an additional fee, the MBUX Hyperscreen panel is available, combining several displays under a common glass. The EQE SUV's equipment is more modest than that of the flagship EQS - for example, without leather trim in the base.
There is no third row of seats, but the second row has a three-section backrest and optional recline adjustment. The trunk holds from 520 to 580 liters, and with the rear row folded - up to 1675 liters.
